What is the most ecologically safe way to dispose of old latex paint?

We are trying to be more ';green'; aware, doing recycling all we can, composting, etc. But what about this paint? Even though it's latex (water based) I'm sure there is nasty stuff in it!What is the most ecologically safe way to dispose of old latex paint?
Is there a local theater group that can use it for painting sets? Check with a high school drama class, too.

If there's only a little bit, paint it onto cardboard until it gets used up. Or just open the can, and let it sit for several days until it all dries.

As a last result, mix in a bunch of cat litter (new, not used!). It will help absorb the paint. Then let it dry inside the can, with the lid off. What is the most ecologically safe way to dispose of old latex paint?
My experience with latex is to leave the cover off the paint can and let it dry out, since it is water based. After it dries, stuff the empty space of the can with newspapers and you can safely dispose of it in the garbage. Although I like the idea of giving it to a community paint project, too. I have seen that done in larger communities.
If all else fails, most towns have a hazardous waste pickup, but I like some of the previous suggestions better.
In every town their should be a waste station.so please .careful what happen to our land
Look in your phone book to see if your city has a hazardous waste collection site. Most landfills have a place where the paint can be left for recycling for a small fee. Other cities have collection sites for things like this. You may also call your garbage company and they can advise you to the best way to dispose of this paint. good luck, Darrell
Take it across the river, either to N.Y.C. or Philly. Set it on the street corner and someone will steal it.
Pour the latex paint into a common bucket and use it to paint stuff where color doesn't matter.
Well, since BP (the gas stations) thought it was fine and dandy to dump whatever chemicals they want into Lake Michigan, I鈥檇 say just go leave it in your local BP station. Maybe dump it in the lot there.
take the paint can and put cat litter in it it dries the paint up so you can dispose of it not properly
