How to thin old latex paint?

I have an old 5 gallon bucket of latex paint that separated and got thick as clay. I worked it with my hands and mixer, but it still has small chunks and is extremely thick. Can I add some water to it and continue the stirring until it mixes? Color does not matter, it is going in a closet and my daughter is going to add her own accentuations. How to thin old latex paint?
Yes, you can thin old latex paint with water. If you need to strain, get a cheap strainer from the dollar store.

Let some of it sit in water overnight after stirring. How to thin old latex paint?
You can thin paint with paint thinner or tepintine.
You can always add some water to water base latex paint. If it is oil based you add paint thinner.

As ';Dan'; said it sounds like you need a strainer to get the lumps out.
avoid *trig*..you thin latex with WATER...those chunks are the pigment..crunch them up...try using a colander to strain it with..just make sure your wife doesn't catch you doing it
You can try thinning it with some water and mixing it well. You will then have to strain out the chunks or they will get on the wall and make it look awful.

You can get a disposable strainer at your local paint store, Wal-Mart, Ace hardware, Home Depot, etc.

You might be better off going to Home Depot, etc and buying a can of fresh paint. They often have oops colors for a discount.
Yes, I have used water before. In fact I do a lot that way for craft projects on other woods and is fine. Mix well and strain
