You might try plain old soap and water first. If you are going to try turpentine or paint thinner, check it out on a small piece of carpet in an out of sight area ( maybe under the couch.)Sometimes it will discolor your carpet, please check first. How do you get Latex paint out of carpet?
Did this happen recently? My grandson at the age of 18 months spilled a paint pan on to the carpet in a rented apartment. We made a quick trip and rented a carpet cleaning machine that extracted the water you put down. It took a while, but they got it all up. Just used regular rug shampoo.
I think the best way would be to use turpentine.
if it is dried and you use a petroleum based product (like turpentine or paint thinner) it may remove the paint but also make the glue in your rug come loose and ruin your carpet making the pile come loose...........best to clean it up right away or it is probably a permanent thing. Just clean up with just plain soap and water
That ';oops'; you heard during that painting project in the other room is bad news - latex paint can ruin a carpet. Act fast or you may have to permanently place a potted plant in that stained spot.
Steps:
1. Remove as much wet paint as you can by blotting with a clean, white, absorbent cloth; work from the outside in to avoid spreading the stain.
2. Sponge with cool water and blot again (still from the outside in) until you've removed as much paint as you can.
3. Mix one teaspoon mild dishwashing detergent in a cup of lukewarm water.
4. Blot with detergent solution solution, using a clean, white cloth, working from the outside in.
5. Let the area dry completely and vacuum.
Tips:
If you've allowed a latex paint stain to dry, contact a professional carpet cleaning service to see if it can remove the stain. You may have to live with it.
mix about a half cap full of frabric softner to 8 oz. of water. Let soak and rub in circular motion with a toothbrush or nail brush. Rinse with clean water when done.
